I had the most generous opportunity arise, my older sister Ammre paid for a spectacular training for me and hooked me up with a place to stay in NYC with the stipulation that A: I cat sit (feed an snuggle a most stellar creature named scout) and B: that I build my "Yoga empire." I gained so much more than a training that weekend, my heart just jumped thinking about it. First I will talk about what Rocket Yoga ("The Rocket") is, and then I will go on about the fun stuff...

Arriving in NYC by bus the night before, it was a very pleasant journey (shout out to mega bus, you rock) just me and my suitcase of food for the week. I met up with the person who's place I was going to be cat sitting at. She showed me around what to do and I slept well. (She to was taking the training but was staying closer to the studio.) The next day I met David Kyle, a most stellar dude and yogi. We immediately went into a rocket practice and I cannot emphasize enough how much I fell in love with this yoga system. It was intense, the kind of movement practice I crave n the morning, and how much I was pushed and succeeded and saw many places where I could grow with it. It is very rooted in Ashtanga, and you can see it clearly, though it is not "Ashtanga." This type of system is really enhanced by switching out every other day a rocket and a mysore or a led Ashtanga class.

The creator of Rocket Yoga, the late Larry Schultz described it as,

"Rocket Routines, a series of postures based on a modification of the traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga primary and intermediate series. The perfect marriage of tempo and sequence. These advanced routines are appropriate for all levels levels of students. With plenty of ways to modify the classical poses, the benefits of the poses are transmitted equally to renew vitality and energy. This vibrant routine is called the “Rocket” because, “it gets you there faster."

Not only did I find a new found enthusiasm for my own practice, a new style of teaching for my tool box but I met so many AAAMAAZING people at the WarriorBridge studio in NYC. (Owner Sean Langhaus) Seriously, If you are in Manhattan , give it a visit. The teachers, the students are so spectacular, knowledgeable and warm. The other thing is the classes are quality. Even their guest teachers are above and beyond. David Kyle is not a resident teacher there, but they clearly put a lot of thought into bringing him in!

Their classes range from Acro Yoga to Aikido. Ammre takes Acro Yoga classes there and that is how she heard of this training. After some of the rocket training day, those that were up to it had the opportunity to stay and take the acro classes. Out of the five days I did that twice, Ammre came up (from an hour and a half away in NJ) the first day and showed me her badassary and even got a picture together! <3 sigh

I cannot speak highly enough of all the people I met there, and I hope to keep in touch with!

I will leave you with the wise words of David "the mula bandha king" Kyle:

"We don't care how much you can squat, or bench press, It's all about how high you can get your butt off the ground and how long you can hold it." -DK

Any Questions, comment or concerns Drop me a line! <3

All my love,

Rumpy
